2020 Wrap-Up

2020 has been a crazy year for all of us! Despite the challenges, we had a number of significant accomplishments throughout the year! Check out our quick recap:

One of our biggest accomplishments was representation at and co-hosting of the recently concluded TiE Global Summit 2020 (TGS 2020), a splendid finale to the year! The TGS event was a remarkable virtual event with participation from across the global entrepreneurial community!

The Summit had representation from multiple government agencies, angel and institutional investors, venture capitalists, PEs, global industry leaders, global entrepreneurs, thought leaders, academia, Nobel laureates, policymakers, and TiE Members from global chapters. 

As part of the event, TiE Global gave Bill Gates a Lifetime Achievement Award. Watch the video below!

TiE Dallas’s theme was ‘What Makes Dallas Tick’ and covered various topics of interest and importance to the Dallas Fort Worth area, the State of TX, and its impact globally. 

• Omnichannel Retail: Dallas has always been a trendsetter in retailing. The session addressed how consumers are adapting to trends and technologies such as AI to consume products and services, including in home improvement, remodeling, and other adjacent industries.
• Logistics & Travel: DFW is a major logistics hub playing a key role in the transformation of global logistics – with key players such as Amazon, the DFW Airport, etc. The session covered major shifts happening in global logistics with DFW leading the way. 
• Telecommunications: Dallas with its Telecom corridor has traditionally been a hotbed of innovation in Telecom. With 5G innovation underway, further growth and innovation is to be expected.
• FinTech: With multiple industries represented and a significant presence in backend financial operations for major financial institutions, the DFW area contributes to thought leadership in FinTech.
• Investment Panel: A high-powered panel discussed the increasing trend towards migration into TX and Dallas from both the coasts by corporates, entrepreneurs, and investors alike. 

We would like to thank Ram Viswanathan, Milton De La Paz, Vinod Baliga, Sunny Banerjea, George Brody, Dayakar Puskoor, and Sumit Gautam for contributing to the experience of TGS 2020!

TiE Dallas is excited to be able to bring quality programs and initiatives for our members’ benefit. We strive to promote, nurture, and support entrepreneurship in the community and are always looking for greater engagement, participation, and leadership for all of our initiatives. Not only do you become part of the local chapter, but you get easy access to a global network of chapters, programs, and leaders. Our main two objectives are to highlight/showcase achievements of successful entrepreneurs and role models in the DFW area and elsewhere and design, plan, and execute programs and events that support the encouragement and growth of the entrepreneurial community. 

Some of our initiatives include:

• TiE Tuesday pitch events – 4th Tuesday of every month (presentations & pitches from various local and global startups)
• State of the Industry series highlighting the challenges and opportunities in specific industries – such as Oil & Gas, Travel, Education, etc. 
• The Ventures program that gets deals funneled into it from pitch events  – deals that some of us have invested in and/or taken advisory positions in.
• Youth Discussion Panel – to dialogue with the younger generation of tech (and other) leaders and entrepreneurs to address key issues facing society
• TYE (The Young Entrepreneur Program) which concluded  its 8th year this year,  Special Presentations (such as on Covid-19 Stimulus packages, Venture Financing Post Covid, talks by Local and State Civic leaders, Mindfulness – lessons from a Navy Seal, etc)
• TiE Women – initiative showcasing and celebrating women entrepreneurs with the support of the global TiE Women program
